collaborations: towards new learning horizons

Within 3,5 weeks PRATT students conceptualized various scenarios for the use of the main terminal building of Tegel airport.

Over the course of July the seekicks team (weißensee school of art and design as a partnering university) contributed with feedback and ideas to the interdisciplinary project initiated by Pratt Institute New York. The group of students from Pratt accompanied by professors Gisela Baurmann and Jonas Coersmeier envisioned alternative futures for the Flughafen Tegel: @pratt.berlin

Within 3,5 weeks students conceptualized various scenarios for the use of the main terminal building incorporating the acute needs they have identified in the city of Berlin: migration, food supply as well as material handling. We have enjoyed the external perspective on Berlin and the vigor with which students tackled the research in the city and the overall assignment.

The most fascinating thing was probably the fact that the entire discussion around the airport building made the students and all other participants of the project to comprehend hot issues in the context of cities and to imagine open-hearted and human ways to handle them.

And this is how the true role of design is reconfirmed. 🙂

The Berlin Summer Program is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service with a grant in their Group Study Visit Program which was also supported by seekicks team, weißensee school of art and design.
