NETWORKS: Thinking in ecologies

Thursday, May 16th von 10am – 5pm @Kunsthalle am Hamburger Platz

What economy would you like to work towards? Who would you like to work with? To explore these questions, it is important to become aware of the desires, interests and values that guide our actions. In this workshop, we will focus on the contexts in which your art and design practice is embedded. We will make your networks visible and accessible to yourselves and the collective in order to subsequently expand them with new contexts, visions and desires. In this process we will be supported by Yudelkys Ponce Valdés who will introduce us to the methodologies of critical pedagogy by Paulo Freire.

The workshop is guided by the idea of an economy in which different ideas enrich each other and by an ethic of care that recognizes our interdependence with the world.

with Sandra Stark and Yudelkys Ponce Valdés

Yudelkys Ponce Valdés has been a professor at the University of Sancti Spíritus „José Martí’“ since 2013. Yudelkys is part of the network of Popular Educators and has been applying Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy in her work with rural communities and in her PhD on energy education for Sustainable Development. For the last seven years, she has taught Physics in Forest Engineering Courses. She researches on Physics education, photovoltaic solar energy, renewable energy sources for local development, and energy education for sustainable development in rural communities.

Sandra Stark is an artist and somatic practitioner. Drawing on the concept of embodied ecologies and building on an understanding of ‘community’ that encompasses all living beings and natural forces, Sandra experiments with new forms of relationship-based ecological action, empathy and response/ability by tapping into bodies’ potential and agency in shaping environments. Sandra currently teaches at weißensee school of art and design and at University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde.
