The aim of the satellite event is to offer a snapshot of the prospective program focusing on providing knowledge, strategies and competences for creatives on how they can actively participate in the development of cities for the Common Good. The Common Good is regarded in this context as a driver of the productive urban development policy towards democratic and sustainable living.

Three organisations, that participate in this process, Haus der Statistik/ZUsammenKUNFT, C*Space and weißensee kunsthochschule berlin/seekicks program, have been already contributing to this goal in their various fields of action: Haus der Statistik, as a pioneer project, with approaches to urban policy and decision-making processes in cities, C*Space, as a social innovation and creative hub, with engaging of diverse groups through facilitated connections, idea creation and place making and seekicks team at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, as a generator of new learning formats and a bridge to the European consortia, with education programs.

The mid-term goal of the partners is to pilot educational activities that address the need for new transversal competences integrating the diverse areas of knowledge needed for holistic and livable city making, ranging from economic, political and legal fields, to architecture and building, social and process technologies and, in particular, including the arts and design: We would like to leverage the potential of creatives and creative skills in city-making processes.

Following this first kick-off event with a smaller circle of co-thinkers and interested stakeholders, our next step would be to further co-create a larger program potentially together with more European partners. For the event in Berlin (3-4 h), which will take place on Sept 17th and broadcasted online, we plan an introduction of the undertaking drawing on the examples coming from the participating organisations. The contribution will include the questions of space and building in cities, political decision-making, interdisciplinary work, new economic models and an outlook for creative skills development.
